The Impact of the USA & Iran War on Travel Warnings & Work Visas

The rising conflict between the United States & Iran might be infringing on the regularity of work visas and business travels. The war may have caused severe travel paralysis and dysfunctions in multiple embassies. And, without a doubt, the consequences could be serious risks to jobs and immigration status.
Here, our EB-1A experts have ruminated on the consequences of this raging war on travel and international immigration.
Three ways the USA-Iran war is impacting the global travel & immigration
The surge in global travel warnings
One of the most difficult and direct impacts is undoubtedly the surge in global travel warnings. Multiple governments, including the United States and India, have issued advisories urging citizens to exercise utmost caution and avoid travel to affected regions. The U.S. State Department, likewise, has released a “global caution” alert, which even included notifications about potential airspace closures during the ongoing military operations. Moreover, several Middle Eastern Countries including Iran, Iraq, and Quatar have effected airspace shutdowns in full or partial capacity. It goes without saying that these measures have severely constrained international travel.
Even tourist destinations are not safe anymore
Iran has recently issued a warning, explicitly suggesting that even global tourist destinations are not entirely safe anymore. Hence, the perceived risk of the war goes well beyond the traditional war zones. As an immediate consequence, the airlines have either suspended or rerouted the flights. All these adversities caused a sharp decline in tourism and major disruptions to most global travel plans.
The impact on the U.S. visa holders
U.S. visa holders have also not been exempt from the conflict. The impact has been a lot more gruelling on the emplotment-based visa holders (i.e. those on the H-1B, L-1 or similar visas). The travel restrictions and the embassy disruptions have intensified to such a significant extent that many foreign professionals are missing their visa interviews, and even their work onboarding dates. Some are also unable to attend visa interviews or even re-enter the United States.
Without a doubt, the war seems to be the biggest calamity that the world is experiencing right now. And, the global consequences of it are spreading far and wide. At GCEB1, we urge all our clients and visa aspirants to stay cautious during the global turmoil. We wish you a safe and stress-free immigration journey.
