According to several official reports and the Press Accounts, like the Washington Examiner, the U.S. administration has revoked more than 80,000 non-immigrant visas since the inauguration of President Trump’s administration. Here, we have analysed the broader pattern of this revocation, so that you can learn whether your visa would be safe.
Our EB-1 experts have isolated some major tendencies of this revocation so that you know whether your visa is at risk. The intensity of this revocation shows a broader immigration related crackdown you need to be aware of.
What is the pattern behind such large-scale revocation?
The administration has incorporated many measures to intensify the vetting of non-immigrant visas. Alongside providing universities with stricter guidelines, the administration has also introduced social media vetting, stricter policies, and rigorous screening.
The numbers reported by other news outlets suggest: over 16,000 visa revocations were tied to cases of driving under the influence, around 12,000 for assaults, and last but not least, another 8000 for theft. As you can see, the major chunks of the revoked visas consist of criminal delinquency and lawlessness. They account for half of the total revocations this year, as reported by Reuters.
Moreover, a State Department Spokesperson added that in August, Washington revoked more than 6,000 student visas for overstaying and illegal behavior. Some of these illegal behaviours also include alleged “support for terrorism”.
Last month, the department revoked visas of at least six people over their social media comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. News outlets came to know from Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State, that he has personally revoked the visas of thousands for involvement in activities that the U.S. foreign policy considers antagonistic. We can hear the same resonance in the directives from the State Department this year, which have ordered the U.S. diplomats abroad to be strictly vigilant against applicants with a history of militancy and political activism.
Are you safe from visa revocations?
Bureaucracy is hard to predict. And, it is not absolutely possible to confirm whether your non-immigrant visa will be bullet-proof safe from revocations. However, the general pattern of revocation seems to be directed against illegal activities, delinquency, and political activism. If you can steer clear of these three and keep your paperwork in order, you will be more or less safe from revocations. However, as a leading EB-1A green card consultancy, we want to add that if you are serious about your American dream, you can explore merit-based pathways like the EB-1 visa. A merit-based green card visa can give you unparalleled stability, which you will never achieve through a non-immigrant visa.
